As with any NFL rookie, just because they are drafted high in the draft does not mean they sign their contract right away. The amount where a rookie is drafted will depend on how much money they are given in their first contract, but the biggest negotiation is how much will be guaranteed. For former UCF running back and current Broncos rookie, that seems to be the matter stopping Harvey from signing his contract.
As a second-round pick, Harvey will be signing a $7.35 million deal with the Broncos, but the holdup is how much of that contract will be guaranteed. Harvey is not the only second-round pick to have not signed his NFL deal yet, as all but two second-round picks are unsigned, and that could be the reason Harvey has not signed his deal yet.
The only two second-round picks from the 2025 NFL Draft are Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins, and both received fully guaranteed contracts. That means that other second-round picks could be negotiating using those two contracts as benchmarks for their own.
With many of the other second-round picks not having signed either, there is no real reason for UCF fans to be worried about Harvey's deal or his spot on the Denver Broncos.
RJ Harvey is making waves with the Denver Broncos
UCF fans have loved following Harvey's journey so far with the Broncos after he was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Harvey impressed during his rookie mini-camp in Denver and even earned the "quad-zilla" nickname from fans, taking after Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.
Even though the Broncos just signed running back J.K. Dobbins to a one-year deal in Denver, there is not a lot of concern over whether Harvey will still get playing time or not. As a rookie, Harvey will need time to get comfortable in the league, so Dobbins brings a veteran presence to help with that transition.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton has been very clear about Harvey's future in Denver and his role with the team, which should, again, make UCF fans very happy.
