Big 12 football schedule release: Who will UCF play in 2024?
UCF has officially spent one year in the Big 12 Conference and most would say it was better than people were expecting. They were the only newcomer to become bowl-eligible in football. They surpassed all expectations for the men's basketball season, and both the softball and baseball team made it to the postseason tournament.
Going back to football, even though UCF was expected to finish higher than they did, they were in almost every game they lost. They easily could have beaten Kansas State, Baylor, and West Virginia had it not been for a breakdown on defense. The Oklahoma and Texas Tech games were close ones that the offense almost came away with as well. The only game they were never truly in was the Kansas game, but we don't need to mention that one.
Now looking forward to the 2024 season, UCF will have a new look on offense and is bringing in a lot of big recruits and big additions from the portal. The addition of K.J. Jefferson from Arkansas at quarterback was a huge pickup by head coach Gus Malzahn. Then you add that running back R.J. Harvey and wide receiver Kobe Hudson chose to stay for one more season, which means this offense can be scary for their second season in the Big 12.
So looking forward to the 2024 season, here are who the Knights will be playing.
Week 1
This will be the first time UCF and New Hampshire will face off on the field.
Week 2
UCF and Sam Houston will face off for the first time in the 2024 season.
Week 3
This will be another first-time matchup for UCF this season. UCF will kick off Big 12 play against TCU this season, TCU finished near the bottom of the conference last season after making it to the College Football Playoff just a season before.
Week 4
Week 4 will be the first bye week for UCF before they play their first home Big 12 game of the season.
Week 5
This will be yet another first-time matchup for UCF this season. They welcome Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes to town in what will be an epic showdown with Colorado joining the Big 12 yet again after a brief stint in the Pac-12.
Week 6
This is a game UCF fans have had scheduled ever since the two schools agreed on a series. UCF will travel to Gainesville and will take on the Florida Gators for the first time since they met in the Gasparilla Bowl in 2021 when UCF took home the victory. Now the Knights will look to beat the Gators in their own stadium.
Week 7
Cincinnati is considered UCF's new rival now that USF is no longer in the picture. The Knights will welcome Cincinnati to Orlando for the first time as both Big 12 Conference members.
Week 8
This is another first-time matchup for UCF this season as they will travel to a hostile Ames, Iowa stadium where the Cyclones look to also contend for a Big 12 Championship and are poised to do so. This would be a huge win for the Knights because Ames is a tough place to play.
Week 9
UCF will welcome the BYU Cougars for Homecoming weekend. This is a great week at UCF with all the homecoming traditions and the best one in the country, Spirit Splash. The home wins are crucial and this late in the season, UCF can't afford to lose this one.
Week 10
Yet another first-time matchup is on the schedule for UCF against Arizona. They will welcome the Wildcats to Orlando in late November in what will probably be a crucial game against another Big 12 title favorite. This would be a big win for the Knights will the season winding down.
Week 11
Back-to-back first-time matchups for UCF and back-to-back matchups against Arizona teams at the Knights travel across the country to take on Arizona State. This will be a tough one due to travel, but luckily they will have a bye week after to rest up.
Week 12
Week 12 will be UCF's second bye week of the season, and it comes at the perfect time.
Week 13
UCF will look to avenge their homecoming loss last year at the hands of West Virginia. The Knights will hope to go into Morgantown and ruin any hopes of a Big 12 title for the Mountaineers.
Week 14
This just might be the biggest game of the season for UCF as they will face probably their toughest team on their final game of the regular season and on Senior Knight. Utah is favored in a lot of polls to win the Big 12, so if UCF can win, they can either play spoiler or have earned themselves a spot in the Big 12 Championship.
