Ever since the news of Gus Malzahn handing in his resignation as head coach of the UCF football team, there have been so many rumors and predictions of which way the Knights will go with their next head coach. they could go with a coordinator and give them their first try at a head coaching position, or they could go with someone with experience currently in a head coaching position.
However, it is looking like the Knights might go a different route, a route that they should not go down. One of those routes is being in contact with former UCF coach Scott Frost, who left the program after the Knights' first undefeated win and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl win to return to his Alma Mater, Nebraska.
While things ended on a good note between UCF and Frost, things did not end well for Frost at Nebraska. After having an amazing two-year career at UCF, going 19-7 and 12-4 in the American Athletic Conference, Frost had a disastrous career with the Cornhuskers, going 16-31 and 10-26 in the Big Ten over four seasons and a few extra games.
Frost had a great career at UCF, and fans would love a comeback story, but with how made Frost's downfall was, it just doesn't seem like a good idea to go backward. There are a lot of other coaching candidates that the Knights could go with.
The fact that UCF is in talks with Frost makes it look like this could be the route they choose, but it doesn't mean they aren't in talks with other coaches. Going with Frost would be the cheap option for UCF, but the cheap option doesn't mean it is the best option. Plus, UCF didn't have to pay a buyout since Malzahn left on his own, so they have the money to pay a good coach.
Frost hasn't coached in college since he was fired back in 2022. Right now, Frost is a Senior Football Analyst for the Los Angeles Rams.
