UCF opened its doors in 1963 as Florida Technological University. They renamed the school the University of Central Florida in 1978 and in 1979, they held their first football season.
So UCF is still a relatively young program, but they have moved from Division III all the way to Division I and are now in a power conference in the Big 12. So with such a short rise to power, one would think UCF has played a lot of programs, both big and small.
However, there are teams UCF has yet to play in their 45 years of existence on the football field. With UCF being in the Southeast, it is tough to schedule games against teams that are all the way on the West Coast.
UCF will be able to cross the final two Big 12 teams on this list in the 2024 season along with Sam Houston from Conference USA. Other than that, here are the teams that UCF has yet to face on the football field.
UCF football vs. AAC
Just a year ago, UCF was playing in the American Athletic Conference, but they made the move to the Big 12 in 2023 and have not looked back. UCF has played most of the AAC teams, however, some of the teams that the AAC added after the departure of UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston, UCF has yet to face.
UTSA Roadrunners: UTSA did not have their first football season till 2011, and joined the FBS in 2012. They were a part of Conference USA for 10 seasons before making the move to the AAC. With the team being in Texas and UCF not playing a lot of teams in Texas, it is no surprise these teams have yet to face off.
North Texas Mean Green: Like UTSA, North Texas is obviously a Texas team and UCF has faced Texas teams only a handful of times. The Mean Green has been in the FBS since 1953, longer than UCF's lifetime.
Charlotte 49ers: Charlotte has only been in the FBS since 2015 and with how far in advance non-conference schedules are made, UCF just hasn't been able to get the 49ers on their schedule yet, but it could happen in the foreseeable future.
Army Black Knights: Army will be joining the AAC in July 2024, so we will go ahead and put them in the AAC column. With them joining the AAC, UCF might be more inclined to add them to thier schedule in the future.
