Jaguars axe Gabe Davis (and UCF fans won’t be happy about it)

One season after signing a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team has decided to move on from former UCF wide receiver Gabe Davis.

The pride and joy of UCF in the NFL for the last few years has been former wide receiver Gabe Davis, who was one of the best receivers to ever play at UCF and was expected to do big things in the NFL. Davis was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and after a few good years in Buffalo, made his way back down South to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars signed Davis to a huge three-year, $39 million deal, as it was expected Davis would do big things in Jacksonville. However, injuries and the fact that the Jags simply weren't very good on offense last season meant that Davis only recorded 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

Now, just one year into that three-year deal, the Jags apparently already have their mind made up on Davis and have chosen to release him, making Davis now a free agent.

There is no doubt Davis had a down year in 2024, but he was with a new team that also struggled on offense. Davis has shown he can produce when he was with the Bills. In his five-year career, Davis played four seasons with the Bills and never had below 500 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Davis's most memorable game came in the playoffs for the Bills in their thrilling divisional matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2021 season, in which Davis caught four touchdowns and had 201 receiving yards.

The Orlando native has proved he can produce in the NFL as a solid WR2, but he needs to be in the right offense. Now, as a free agent, Davis will be able to shop around again for his next team, and UCF fans will be anxiously awaiting to see where he lands.
